The ever covetable side zip jeans.
If you didn’t know— Side zip jeans were at their height of popularity in the 1930s-1950s, but there are pairs dating back to as early as the 1920s.
Originally created specifically for women, as they were thought to be more “modest” than the fly zipper.
Regardless of how you feel about that particular fact— many pairs were made with two snaps on the side, making them adjustable for practicality, as women’s bodies fluctuate in size throughout the month.
A feature in denim that I can’t help speculate was done away with so that you would buy more and not less.
(Another fun fact: Throughout the 1940s they were called dungarees.)
By the 1960s, jeans were being made in a more standard and uniform fashion with a zipper fly across both men and women’s styles.
And jeans of course by then were a symbol of American style, counterculture and in some cases rebellion.

A great pair of sturdy and flattering side zips! Overall areas of slight fading and spots of minor faint discoloration throughout. Mend on left seat pocket. Two 1” areas of darker discoloration on the front of the right thigh.
