A really beautiful and unusual work of art, this appliquéd and pieced quilt is constructed from various silk ribbons in a brickwall-like arrangement. With linear quilting, applied brown silk binding, multi-paneled print silk fabric backing.
Dates to the late 19th or very early 20th century.
From the collection of a woman who was a textile curator at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.

C O N D I T I O N
In fair overall condition with areas being good to very good retaining bright colors, top with scattered losses and shattering to ribbons, binding with shattering and tears, backing with light to heavy toning most notably to fold lines.
This piece presents beautifully and would be best used for display.
Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
