1920s Silk House Tops Quilt

$1,200.00

This striking antique quilt is unlike any we have ever seen. The previous owner purchased it at an Amish quilt fair in Arkansas in the 1970s. The concentric squares/rectangles design is one we’ve seen in Amish quilts, as well as African American made quilts.
What makes this quilt extra special however are the beautiful midnight blue and peach colored silks that make up its entirety.

The peach silk has incredible hand embroidered motifs that emulate 19th century Asian textiles we have seen and were likely original to the textile used to make the quilt from vs. later added to the quilt itself. Multiple colored quilting threads were used to match the silk, a thoughtful detail of the maker. Immaculate hand stitched binding.
A true rare and beautiful collectors piece.

There is one small tear in the blue silk at the edge, something we thought about mending ourselves but decided to leave up to the end owner. A handful of other very tiny and minor nicks to the silk, some fading to the peach silk at one side. The back has some minor discoloration and fold lines, as well as a few small stains.
This quilt is stunning and best used hung on a wall or displayed in some other fashion vs. used as an everyday quilt on a bed.

Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.

⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.
