1900s Make-Do Large Patchwork Quilt

$508.00

A striking example of vernacular textile design — equally compelling as a wall piece, bed cover, or study textile.
A beautiful make-do utility quilt, hand-stitched and constructed from period indigo and natural cotton fabrics. This quilt features a minimalist block composition with large alternating fields of faded blue and turkey red, showcasing the quiet geometry and honest construction typical of late 19th to early 20th century rural American quilts.

The hand quilting is executed in a simple grid pattern throughout, and the surface shows beautiful age-softened texture. Fabric wear, fading, and visible mending reflect decades of use and add to the quilt’s historical character.

Areas of fading across the blue squares. A few areas of exposed batting. Fading and spots of discoloration across the back of the quilt. A larger water stain towards the center.
Overall sturdy and beautiful and great for whatever the desired use.

Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.

⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.
