1890s Red Double Irish Chain

This striking beauty is made up of subtle crimson red diamonds and white blocks. The edge binding is not original and was added to the quilt at a later date, making it a more vibrant red than the original quilt piecing. For its age, it’s in quite good condition and with love and care it will withstand the test of time for many generations to come.

How it’s made: hand pieced and hand quilted

Weight: light

Measurements laid flat: 71” x 70”

Some yellowing to the white throughout with a couple tiny spots of discoloration. Edge binding added later by machine. No major holes or wear to note.

Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project my friends. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
