1850s Bird in Flight Quilt

This 1850s Bird in Flight patterned quilt is a remarkable work of art. The fantastic early vegetable dyed red and green fabrics really stand out with the wonderful, intricate quilting techniques and unique border. A substantial amount of work went into creating the triple line quilting at the border and decorative quilting throughout, to say nothing of the actual vegetable dyed fabrics. This quilt is on another level than the calico quilts of similar designs.

C O N D I T I O N
This museum quality quilt may be one of the best we have found to date. The only perceived flaws are some very faint spots of discoloration which cannot even be detected by our camera. On one corner, the bind on the border pattern does not quite line up, if you can even perceive that as a “flaw”. In amazing condition and would be a very special addition to your collection.

Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project my friends. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
