1850s Eight Pointed Star Cheddar Quilt
This 1850s Eight Pointed Star patterned quilt is a once in a lifetime find.
Vegetable dye has faded, I believe the stars were green until they faded to tan color as is standard from this era’s green dyes. Triple border. Two different vegetable dyes were used. Green binding is newer and beautifully hand stitched. The body of the quilt is a stunning orange-yellow (light cheddar). And of course we know how coveted cheddar is…
The gradient and fade of this 42 Stars + 9 Patch quilt is honestly so gorgeous and a work of art in and of itself. Looks truly incredible on a bed.

Hand pieced, appliquéd and quilted at 14-16 stitches per inch in diamond shapes with black quilting thread details.
A nice light-medium weight quilt for the transition in seasons.

75” x 74”

C O N D I T I O N
In very gorgeous useable condition. Has some spots and discoloring throughout, mostly from storage, as well as some overall discoloration to the back. No tears or other flaws to note. In truly remarkable condition.
Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project my friends. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
